Being
able to reach the most remote communities in the State of
Alaska to provide medical care is a goal Dr. List shares with
many.
Dr. List
is a founding member of the Alaska
Telehealth Advisory
Council and continues an active role with this organization.
Electronic
Health Records are currently a growing effort around the
country as well as in Alaska.
The Alaska
Electronic Health Records Alliance was created in
an effort to promote and coordinate the use of interoperable electronic health records in the State. We are in the process of applying for 501C3 status which will allow us to obtain grants and funding for the development of affordable, interoperable electronic health records for health care practioners in the state of Alaska.
There is a lot of activity in this area. Please refer to the Alaska Electronic Health Record Alliance web site for further information, www.aehra.org.
We are in the process of creating a RHIO (Regional Health Information Organization) in an effort to be able to share health care information among hospitals, clinics, physicians etc. depending on who needs the infomation and who has permission from the patient. This is a very complex endeavour, but should improve patient safety, reduce redundancy and improve efficiency.
